27. 10. 2015 Cancer in the older population of the Czech Republic
Population ageing has become a challenge to cancer care in developed countries. Particularities of the older population must be taken into account when considering cancer treatment. However, there is a lack of consensus on guidelines for this population due to the underrepresentation of older patients in clinical trials.
15. 1. 2014 Personalised invitations of Czech citizens to cancer screening programmes
In January 2014, a project of personalised invitations for cancer screening programmes was launched in the Czech Republic. In particular, citizens are invited to participate in colorectal cancer screening (men and women), as well as breast cancer screening and cervical cancer screening (women). Personalised invitations are aimed at citizens who have not participated in cancer screening programmes in the long term, and therefore are at a higher risk of developing cancer. The project is expected to increase participation rates in Czech cancer screening programmes.

Rektum.cz

The portal rektum.cz is dedicated mainly to the education of health care professionals on the issue of rectal cancer, which is diagnosed as C20 under the ICD-10 classification.
start projektu: February 2010
ukončení projektu: January 2012
Each year about 8000 people are diagnosed with colorectal cancer in the Czech Republic, involving about 2000 cases of rectal cancer (C20 diagnosis). Despite the current possibilities of multimodal treatment, this type of cancer remains to be a serious illness with a mortality rate reaching up to 50%.
Expert teams of researchers and doctors from top-ranking medical facilities are fundamental for a right application of modern treatment possibilities. However, if the outcomes of research in cancer surgery and related findings in biostatistics are to be applied in clinical practice, an interdisciplinary education of healthcare professionals, students of oncology and of surgical disciplines, as well as experts in biostatistics is needed.
The project aims to ensure a further education of researchers in cancer surgery and of experts on biostatistics, with a particular emphasis on doctors-specialists from surgical departments and students involved in this area of research. This will be realized through an educational, research-oriented website, which will contain a database of patients diagnosed with rectal cancer.
The project is primarily aimed at the education of researchers and specialists working at the University Hospital in Motol, but it is also open to researchers from other hospitals and medical faculties in Prague (namely, the 1st and the 2nd Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague).
The project will enhance the professional qualifications of target groups and will create preconditions for further cooperation among involved researchers. The Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses (IBA) at the Masaryk University in Brno is a partner of this project, building on many years of cooperation in the area of cancer research and biostatistics with the University Hospital in Motol and with experts from medical faculties at the Charles University in Prague.
