English version of cervix.cz has been launched

April 2009 has seen the launch of the English version of www.cervix.cz, the official website of the project entitled Cervical Cancer Screening Programme in the Czech Republic.

Cervical cancer screening is among population-based cancer prevention programmes, as stipulated by the recommendation of the European Council from 2nd November 2003 (2003/878/EC). It has been repeatedly proved that an effective cervical cancer screening can significantly decrease the incidence of cervical cancer across the population, although it can take many years for this effect to become evident. The Czech Breast Cancer Screening Programme is one successful example: this prevention programme has been running in the Czech Republic since 2002, and the incidence of breast cancer (i.e., the number of newly diagnosed cases per year) has been steadily going down. The Cervical Cancer Screening Programme is run under the auspices of the Czech Ministry of Health.

This website is primarily aimed to enhance the public awareness of cervical cancer screening and prevention; as a secondary aim, it can provide useful information to gynaecologists and accredited cytology laboratories.
