English version of mamo.cz has been launched

April 2008 has seen the launch of the English version of www.mamo.cz, the official website of the project entitled Breast Cancer Screening Programme in the Czech Republic.

Breast cancer screening is among population-based cancer prevention programmes, as stipulated by the recommendation of the European Council from 2nd November 2003 (2003/878/EC). It has been repeatedly proved that an effective breast cancer screening can significantly decrease the incidence of breast cancer across the population, although it can take many years for this effect to become evident. The Breast Cancer Screening Programme has been running in the Czech Republic since 2002, and the incidence of breast cancer (i.e., the number of newly diagnosed cases per year) has been steadily going down. The Breast Cancer Screening Programme is run under the auspices of the Czech Ministry of Health.

This website is primarily aimed to enhance the public awareness of breast cancer screening and prevention; as a secondary aim, it can provide useful information to accredited screening centres.
