Better prospect of recovery than 15 years ago

The prospect of cancer patients' recovery is much better than 15 years ago, as results from the conclusion of Czech oncologists and the Czech Statistical Office.

This is mainly due to more effective prevention programmes, better patients' awareness of health care possibilities, and significant changes in Czech anticancer policy, as we regularly report on this website.

Although cardiovascular diseases and cancer still remain the main causes of death, the mortality of these diseases has slightly decreased. Thanks to preventive examinations and screening programmes, cancer is now more frequently diagnosed in early stages, which markedly enhances the chance of patient's survival.

Professor Jan Zaloudik, member of Board of the Czech Society for Oncology, confirmed that the Czech health care standard in oncology is fully comparable with standards of other EU countries, and is even better for some diagnoses. Professor Jiri Vorlicek, Head of the Czech Society for Oncology, reminded that health insurance companies provide free of charge examination of breast, cervix and colorectum, but that this advantage has not yet been fully used by the Czech population.
